I'm also a beginner and recently first experience with a table saw to make strips. Had I not rationalized the purchase for "other projects", I should have at least given the soil saw method a chance. My big discovery, other than it's a potentially hazardous tool is that, if not set up well, it can make cutting errors also. I bought a used saw and, after cutting some strips, had to start over with fence adjustments and getting it all square. In time, I found a method that works for me and I know how I will improve it next time.
Bottom line, if you are uncertain and new to working with power tools, try to skil saw method. It's a smaller investment and, while table saws are inherently more accurate and repeatable, it takes some practice to get them right also. It's inherently safer, in my opinion, although any spinning blade can cause great harm.
I found myself wishing I had taken a basic course on how to use a table saw. I had to learn how important it is to have a good indeed and out feed setup, for example. I found some 18 foot boards, but should have cut them in half since they were such a bear to handle.
There is more to tell, but then it would be like a course without photos or practice sessions! You have to dive in, but you should not waste money on tools or making scrap. You should not become a table saw victim, either.
