I have glassed the hull before adding the risers and I have glassed the hull after adding the risers.

I think on balance adding after glassing works better for me..

It is easier to get the glass to conform to the shape of the deck without the risers. The risk of wrinkles near the cockpit is reduced.

Since the risers definitely need glass on both sides, there is a little bit of extra work fairing the glass where it comes down the outside and onto the deck.

Certainly ordinary wood glue is sufficient to assemble the risers. Like the hull and deck, it is sandwiched between glass, so the strength of the wood and glue is not important. In any case, if you have a neat fit, the glued joint will be the strongest part.

One trick that works well for me with the ordinary PVA glue that I use is to use the heat gun to make the glue set almost instantly. I apply glue to both sides, heat both parts with the heat gun until the glue bubbles (being careful not to burn my fingers) then hold the new piece in place for a few seconds. If I works around both sides and alternate, then the glue is strong enough that no clamps are needed and I can work continuously. There is no need to wait for the glue to dry. It is almost like using contact glue.
