Some practice with the heat gun on some scrap strips is probably worthwhile.

You need to learn what setting to use if your gun is adjustable, what distance to hold ti from the timber, how fast to move it along the timber, how long a section to heat at one time, how long to continue heating and maybe a couple of other things as well.

If you are applying bending pressure as you heat, you can feel to point at which the strip is ready to bend.

Heating on the inside of the curve is best for a couple of reasons. Scorch marks will be less visible and because the timber bends by compressing on the inside, not stretching on the outside.
