It may not show the benefit of the cutaway as well as the front view, but at least this photo shows why the cutaway is located where it is.

My first race in the new kayak is this weekend, so I don't yet know for sure that it helps me to go faster, but I can certainly feel that it is easy to keep the paddle stroke starting close to the kayak.

BTW If you think I am sitting a bit low for a K1, you are right. I was paranoid about whether I could manage the reduced stability, so I built a very low seat. I have since raised it about 20mm and increased the paddle length by 50mm to keep the distance down to the water the same.
