Hello again Dan,

I did a bandsawed cedar internal stem on my first boat, and no internal stem on my second. I would not bother with another internal stem again, it is unnecessary, adds weight, and wastes time. As others mentioned, you get all the strength you need from the external hardwood stem (on mine a couple of ~1/8" strips of maple) and the glass on the outside. By the time you add a few extra layers of glass over the external stem to deal with impacts and abrasion, the stem will be stronger than the hull it is attached to. You can staple the strip ends to the tapered end form, at least that worked fine with my 3/4" plywood forms.
