I did some test panels years back. Due to the size of the object being glassed and the thickness of the lamination, even if the Dacron was fully saturated with resin the weight gain is at most half a pound for an average kayak. If your careful with your epoxy it is virtually identical.

The point is, if you're trying to save every gram of weight than precoating MAY save some weight. MAY.

If you just want to get on the water quickly (which is one of the main selling points of skin-on-frames) than skip the precoating and just start laminating.
