Hi Marc,

I always use an iron on mine. I've got two actually a normal sized home iron and a little one that's nice for tight areas like between the stringers at the bow/stern where the big one doesn't fit well. I do it like the Stit's Poly-Fiber manual states, start at a low heat and work up in the heat ranges until it's tight. With most home irons it's at least the middle range on the heat settings for the iron to shrink it at all, then takes only small increases to get more tightening.
