The Sea Bee is a great design for rough water, particularly if you have a skirt. The bow will go through waves if they are steep and close together. I've been paddling mine 3+ years now, year round in high winds and rough water, I normally paddle on the lower Chesapeake Bay. Haven't used it in the surf other than launching or landing at Nags Head while visiting friends. You should have fun in Myrtle Beach.

J racks should work fine, if your concerned put a rope to front of car. When using racks I strap mine upside down on the bars, never had any issues with straps loosening.

You could do a light sanding and another coat of paint and be good to go till you decide to build a new boat.
