Here's a comment from a first-time strip builder's perspective:
After reading posts from all the proponents of the rolling bevel I started my build with that approach. Apparently I'm not the quick-study type because the knack didn't come to me in ten minutes - or in ten hours either.

After re-reading some of the discussions on this very valuable and very helpful forum I came across the "5 deg trick" (also the 3 deg trick, and the 11 deg trick). I had not cut all my strips to width yet so I tried that approach. When I finished stripping the deck and turned it over I quickly saw why the recommended method is a ROLLING bevel. One size does NOT fit all. My project is now at the point where I'm ready to add a humongous amount of filler to correct all of those excessive spaces between strips (that can't be very well adhered to each other). These are not here and there spaces. They're the entire length of just about ever strip except the few for which that particular bevel was both appropriate and constant.

In my albeit limited experience I'm inclined to agree with the rolling bevel crowd. But master it in ten minutes? I'm still pretty skeptical about that.
