I need more information on using a sheer clamp to help with the hull-deck joint area in a strip kayak.
I'm getting ready to start a Bjorn Thomasson kayak which has a surfski-style sheer line ('swooping' foredeck sheer with angled join to the hull), and I need to make some decisions on notching the forms before I start setting up.
Dan Caouette: Thanks for your excellent photo galleries; I had a good look around but couldn't find the info I need.
My questions (to anybody who has used this technique (notched forms) on a kayak:
What dimensions did you use for the sheer clamp?
Was it laminated in place?
Was the clamp constant width? Constant thickness and varying width?
How did you decide the notch dimensions in the forms?
Thanks!
