I do it like you Marc, I bend it inside the completed hull. It needs to sit somewhat proud of the hull (above the stripped sheer) so the angle of the deck can be planed into it and get it even with the hull side. I make the size so the combined hull side and sheerclamp are approx. 3/4" wide to give a good bonding area for the deck.
