I've been offered an old canvas covered canoe. It is probably at least 60 years old. The canvas is wrinkled and rotten so it will need to be replaced. The cedar that forms the hull is in reasonable shape, but the canoe will definitely need new canvas, new gunnels and new seats. I've built 7 strip kayaks and one strip canoe, but have never attempted to re-canvas a canoe.
Does anyone know of a good web site on re-canvassing a canoe? Since the boat is so old I think that I should probably look to traditional methods of restoring it, but would also like to know about more modern materials and/or methods.
