I'm with you on this one Bill. It is very easy to end up with the lines held tight against the deck and hence
almost impossible to get hold of when you are out of the boat and in the water.
For that reason I still prefer old fashioned wooden fittings. I like to taper them slowly fore and aft, and make the
holes at least a 1/4" clear of the deck surface.
It is also possible to obtain a chemical bond if they are epoxied in place within 24 hours of the last fill coat.
I know it then makes varnishing a bit of a pain but heck! you can't win them all.
