Hi John, essentially I would agree with you. I wouldn't do it myself in anything but plastic.

I should have mentioned that these guys have done Greenland before, in plastic. They are accompanied in part by their own support boat. I think the issue here is that they are looking for something visually pleasing and a little unusual for the sake of the photographic and video record.
