Strip: Laminating cowl *PIC*

Ok, getting ready to do this, but just wondering how everyone cuts the strips. 1/16 inch on my old table saw may be kinda shaky. Any recommendations for wood? I am planning right now to use hemlock and cedar. Any thoughts? Prob won't get to it today, and going to my sons place on the lake for Mothers day, so tomorrow is prob out too... just gnashing my teeth right now.
