A lot of skin boats are built with thin steam-bent ribs that do not permit relief cuts and the only space for material to flex is provided by the depth of the stringers. The stringers are also often only 1/4 (6 mm) thick and closer together around the turn of the bilge and the Platt Montford designs look like they have more stringers than most. The simpler the boat the more thought goes into its design . . .
How you feel about this would depend where and how your boat is going to be used - I admit my boats are coddled compared to some of you guys.
