Since I have installed a cockpit recess, i use my recess template and outline on the deck. From there I look at those stations that across the recess lines, typically 3 stations, and trimming from there with a jig saw or Japanese saw, of course I remove the deck for fews minutes to trim. After I cut out the recess, eyeball or lay a scrap strip across the deck to see if it touches any stations, and retrain as necessary.. Good luck
