I will be putting the skeg box slightly off center of the keel--on the left side so I can run the cable to the left side of the cockpit. Seems like a solid idea to avoid picking up real estate from launching and landings.
Just looking at the bottom of my boats - where the scuffs and scratches seem to appear - I don't think you'll make much of a difference in debris collection by moving the skeg slightly off-center.
