Mike-
If you are going to be mail-ordering supplies, some of the US builders will have good ideas, I think.
I recall RAKA being mentioned? If you can get your epoxy and glass from one supplier you will save on shipping.

I think Nick has a building guide (with his plans, or online?). I'd follow his advice about cloth weights and amounts.

For basic epoxy/glass technique, I still follow the Ted Moores (Kayakcraft and CanoeCraft books) methods, but there are other variations which the pros here use, so my advice would be to use one method vs 'mix and match' for your first boat.

BTW, unless there is a very good reason to do so, I'd avoid staining my first project...but I don't like stains anyway, so I'm biased.
