This is not completely uncommon with whitewater kayaks. The manufacturers' advice is to put the kayak in the sun on a hot day. I have personally witnessed a completely taco'd kayak that was found pinned the day after the boater swam out of it pop right back into shape, and it was white, so if you've got a dark color you're probably better off.
