I got a call yesterday from a friend with a Pygmy Arctic Tern that I'd assembled for him some years ago.
The kayak was hung (with rope) from the underside of the 'ceiling' of a carport/deck beside his house - about 10-12 ft above the concrete drive. A fellow delivering firewood with a truck managed to peel the boat off the ceiling (bent the support hooks open, gave the deck a good shake) and it landed bow-first on the drive.
Ouch!
There's a small area of delamination of the plywood on one side. It's a bit hard to see from the pics but the damaged area is about 4" long. It looks like most of the damage along the stem area resulted from the 'slide' after the original impact.
For me, the interesting thing is that the inside of the boat is still 100% intact and the boat would be watertight and safe to paddle home, if the damage had happened while paddling.
