I would lay on my full hull glass, then when that gets green cured, put on the strip. Avoid floating that area in epoxy, ensure a better squeeze out of excess with less chance to froth it. With glass tape, I'd cut off the selvage edge with a rotary cutter, but as has been said, a bias cut strip of regular glass would conform better if you follow it up the stems.
