I still find it amazing that they can keep a modern K1 upright long enough to get it moving. Most kayaks are stable once it's going, just have to not go swimming before that happens.
A few years ago I got to try two K1's, one from as I remember the 1970's that was actually a lot of fun to paddle, very fast and easy to paddle though pretty unstable. Also got to hang onto the dock trying to keep a more modern one upright, never even tried to paddle it. They say it had a stability level of 1 on a scale of 1-10, for me it was more like a negative 5.
