I have actually considered using Sean Dawes technic with Bondo-hair (We don't have that brand i Denmark, but I think I can find something similar). It looks easy.
The problem is that it is based on polyester. I have heard that epoxy will bond to polyester, but not the other way around. And that polyester is not as waterproof as epoxy.
