I am looking for help.
After building several paddles and kayaks I have run into a finishing problem.
My usual procedure is one or two coats of System Three epoxy, two or three coats of spar.
On my last paddle the spar never cured and it stayed sticky. This summer I cleaned it with aceton, sanded, and reapplied the epoxy. I sanded and applied my first coat of spar. It has been three days and I am in the same boat. Most of the time I use Z-spar and have never had trouble on any kayak or paddle. I was in a pinch and am using Helmsman spar. I have used this in the past too without trouble. Could I just have a bad can? I can't remember if I used some from the can successfully (don't laugh I m getting older!).
My plan now is to clean again with acetone, sand , and find some Z spar.
If anyone has suggestions I am looking for help. I have been very lucky in my building as I have never had trouble with my epoxy application or with spar until now.
