All I have ever done in the past is epoxy, sand, apply spar. I have never dealt with any of this before. I always have used the spar right out of the can, no problem.
Is acetone the best thing to use to clean off the sticky spar?

If it's only been three days, I'd put the boat out in the sun for a day or two before starting to remove the varnish..to see if it will harden up.

I'd use a chemical paint remover to get the varnish off, if it came to that....I find that acetone evaporates so quickly that it isn't very useful for larger areas, and I don't like dealing with the fumes/vapor.
