Seeking: Just beginning - first

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum. I am a handy-man with modest woodworking skills and experience. I am new to wooden boat and kayak building. I am a long-time sailor with two questions.

First, living in Michigan, I am writing to find a wooden boat building school or instructor.

Second, any recommendations on the first boat/kayak to build for the beginner with some skills?
