Check out WoodenBoat school. I don't know if that is within your geographical driving distance, but they offer many programs for various types of building. Most common books for strip building small boats are Nicks two books, CanoeCraft and Kayakcraft by Ted Moores. but when you purchase a set of plans from most companies, they will likely come with a building manual for that boat. For books on other methods of building, look at the WoodenBoat store.
