I learned the hard way with trying to fill some dimples with varnish. It takes a long time to dry and does not want to build up like epoxy does. I had some small weave showing in a few spots on one boat while most of it was filled quite good. I fully believe it's easier to just do a quick wet sanding and give it some epoxy. On areas where I actually had weave, I used a wire brush so I would clean into any indentations. Normally I epoxy fast applying successive coats as soon as I can but in this case I didn't spot the weave spots right away and wanted to be sure I had no blush in the weave areas. I was well past the green stage so I knew I had to sand. With this weather, you could sand the surface and get it ready for another coat in a half hour.
