I'm short of space and heavy-duty tools so I prefer to do the scarfing on the strips rather than the planks so I handle lighter, smaller parts.

This is easy if you happen to have a bench disc sander. Trick is to level the table accurately and clamp a perfectly square guide block at the required angle - you can square it on the disc. Then the strips can be ground to the precise angle is seconds. You will need to make up a clamping jig, this one has worked well for years and uses a couple of lever clamps most tool stores carry them.

I find Titebond III good for this kind of scarf. Unlike epoxy its water content gets absorbed in seconds so it isn't slippery, and the clamped joint can soon be removed from the jig so you can start on the next one. By the time I've ground the next pair of strips the first joint can be removed gently and set aside.
