well....i am finally at the point of my project where i am ready to join the hull to the deck on a night heron build
this is my first strip built project and i wanted to get some ideas on layup for the seam tape.
the kit came from CLC and came with 3 inch tape (and enough to do one layer inside and out). when i read the strip built sea kayak, they talked about using 2 inch tape with 1 inch tape over the 2 inch tape on the inside. they did not really discuss the outside seam.
any input would be appreciated....should i swap the 3 inch tape for 2 inch tape? do you really need two tape layers inside? is one layer of 2 or 3 oz tape adequate for the outside? what would you recommend?
i have been working to keep this build nice and light....that said, i am not looking to skimp on basic strength where required. any other thoughts from people who have been there and/or tips and ideas to keep in mind would be appreciated.
