I think this is easier working on some saw horses rather than trying to push 4 x 4s through the table saw. You'll get less binding since you can be sure the post have warp.

Using a Siksaw (circular saw) definitely has merit.
(Did I mention that I love my bandsaw? ;-) )
Jay- Did you somehow clamp the ripped planks back to the 4x4 to provide support for the saw base? Or did you just run the saw base on the narrowing remaining post?
For folks that haven't cut strips before, remember that the usual 'style' is to cut the planks so that the flat grain is showing on the face. Then the strips will have 'vertical grain' showing. With fast-grown stuff like most cedar I see in the box stores, the grain lines are quite wide, so perhaps this need not be a concern.
