Btw, it happens fairly often trying to rip timbers ( a 4x4 is a timber), if the saw does bind and the blade stalls, first TURN OFF THE POWER, then figure out how to get the blade unstuck. Sometimes the blade will start turning unexpectedly after it's unstuck which can be seriously dangerous if you're not expecting it.

Btw, I agree that a Skil saw is likely the safest way to make the initial cuts in the 4x4, then use the table saw to cut the strips when you then have a pair of 2x4's.
