I live in the Northeast USA, and there is granite rock everywhere. From the Adirondacks to the Bay of Fundy, from the Connecticut coast to Saguenay Fjord there is rocks, rocks, and more rocks. I got over the perfect finish long ago. You might consider putting the nicest finishing job you can on the boat, take a picture, and then take a fist sized piece of granite and put at least three 4 foot long scratches in the forward section of the hull. Then go have a beer and relax. For me this would be a waste of time because the scratches just appear after a few hours of use.

One spot I do keep waxed is the forward deck hatch. When I enter a race this allows me to peel off the racing numbers afterward.
