Strip: Coaming dimensions

G'day All,
I've dusted off a kayak project that I started years ago and am doing the cockpit at the moment. I have gone with a plywood coaming much like the CLC boats but with a cockpit B shape from Kayakfoundary.
I've completed the coaming which is 3/4" high and 3/4 inch wide. Today I cutout the ply lip and it is ready to attach. I made the lip 1 1/2" wide which IIRC is approximately how wide the CLC loaning lip is.
This leave's 3/4" of functional lip which seams a bit excessive. I read in a post here once that the Guillemot style coamings are 3/4 high with 3/4 " of width ( 1/4" width of riser + 1/2" of lip = 3/4". 1/2" of functional lip underneath.
Does that sound about right?

I'm thinking that somewhere between 1/2" and 5/8" would be heaps to accept the skirt edge.
Opinions anybody?

Cheers
