Hmmm, I sense a bit of conflict of interest here. If I recall correctly, you arrived at the beer tent about 45 minutes faster than me at the Blackburn. By the time I got there, all I got was a half glass of foam as the keg ran dry.
That is what is called motivation.
At about 5 mph average speed you were pushing into the high wave drag region of the 17' Great Auk (especially at the beginning of the race when you were faster). Switching to a kayak like the Mystery could take over 30 minutes off your time - but only if you were comfortable with the stability. You would be in more pain when you finished, but there might be some beer left and the line for the massage would be shorter.
