I think lashing saves me time, particularly when I goof up and need to do a "do over".
Plus, screws or dowels into the side of plywood are not all that strong. Four strands of lashing will lift over 200 pounds.
So in my humble opinion lashing is a better way to join pieces of a SOF with plywood pieces.
