To elaborate - the 'lifting' problem is only in a few areas of the hull. You can very easy push it back down with your fingers ie it is not highly sprung. I would like to use glue but cannot access the hull because of the deck is in the way. This is why I thought I would put temporary small nails in.

The deck, which I used glue and not staples has no problems. This is in part because following Rob's tips I started using strips of less width to help the bending and I spent more time aligning the edges of the strips,

The hull was fairly rough so I used a fairly aggressive 40 paper on a ROS. I was very happy with the result because the hull is now quite smooth. The few areas that went through (edges) was in areas that was not fair.This enabled me to fix these spots with replacement strip sections.

In hindsight I should have been more careful using consistent thickness strips as well as smaller width strips all over.
