Tonight I went out to check on the hatches and the deck. I removed the clamps and the hatches looked good to me in terms of how they were glued together.

In the second picture of the hatches, I was experimenting with the placement of the osprey onlay which I bought when I ordered the kit. The osprey is my favorite raptor, and I thought it appropriate to put this on the kayak. I'm debating whether to try to cut out just the bird and onlay that.

I then pulled all the stitches from the deck section and laid the deck back on the hull. It looks even better without all those wires sticking out.

The tacks seemed good, and my next step this evening was to fillet and glass the underside of the deck, so getting rid of all that wire was a priority.

If I were to do anything different with respect to what I've done thus far, it would be to make sure that I had a better consistency of epoxy/wood flour when doing the fillets, and remembering to use the ziploc bags I had stuck in my pocket...

After running fillets the length of the deck and building up the fillets I had put on the front and back rims of the hatches, I laid down the glass, including the extra three layers between the cockpit and the rear hatch.

Having glassed the Sapele on the inside of the deck, I really like the grain pattern and color of this wood, in contrast to the Okoume used in the hull and shear panels.
