All fabric, fiberglass included, is not made up of threads woven into cloth, it's composed of yarns of twisted threads woven into cloth. The bigger the yarns the more strength the cloth will have, also it will be more course in texture and in fiberglass will hold more resin. Fiberglass is often an uneven weave, with more and/or bigger yarns in one direction than the other so will be stronger in the direction of the weave that has more yarns. On the Thayercraft web site you'll see the specs for the weave listed for the cloth they sell. A balanced cloth has equal strength in both directions (it has somewhat less strength in the diagonal direction since the yarns don't go that direction).

This can get fairly involved :)
