They charge in linear foot, but all I knew was I needed about 80 board feet.

80 bf seems like a lot, for one kayak.

Using a density of about 20 lbs/cubic foot for WRC, 12bf will weigh 20lbs. Even a lot of waste for kerf and ends of strip cut off, 80bf is a lot.

Nick's calculator is a handy tool - since I'm a wood addict, I don't use it myself! ;-) It shows something in the 25-35 bf range for most kayaks.

Still, I'm all for buying extra wood - "Since I have those strips left over, I might as well build another kayak. Just a bit more epoxy and glass....." ;-)
