It sounds like you have the trick solved with the rotary tool to do the job. I will certainly give it a try.

Gordon-
The rotary tool helps- and is a lot faster, but even carefully scissor-cut bias strips don't ravel. Bias cut strips make a bit stronger join as well, since all the fibers are 'working' across the seam.
