Carbon fiber is light, strong, and looks real cool, but it soaks up a lot of resin if not vacuum bagged. If you want to take advantage of the light and strong aspects you will need to vacuum bag it. Otherwise, use S-glass, which is much cheaper, and with a hand- layup it is about as strong and light.
