B&C was developed for large strip boat hulls with planking maybe an inch thick, and perhaps an inch to an inch and a half wide, and relatively little hull curvature in relation to boat size and plank width. Planing that many planks of that thickness by hand would take a lot of time, so B&C is an obvious and elegant solution.
B&C was never really developed for the plank ratios we use, which are relatively thin and wide by comparison to larger boats, and often turning harder curves at chines etc. This is why we find separation or cove crushing on the hard turns, and why planing is less of a chore than it would be on a large hull.
Because a strip kayak is still "strip boat building" the assumption is that B&C is the obvious default when preparing the planks, and this would hold true if we were using 5mm x 8mm planks, but for the plank widths we typically use this default no longer necessarily holds true.
Just my reasoning on the issue.
