The real advantage is in a boat like a canoe where both sides of the hull are equally visible, also with no deck for added structural support the strips generally need to be thicker, so the B&C is easier to cut.

Conversely bevelling becomes easier with thinner strips.

My latest K1 is built from 3.5mm thick strips and it takes less work to get the bevel right than it does on the 5mm strips I use for sea kayaks.
