My K1 seems quite strong enough and stiff enough without anything added to support the strips.

With 85gsm glass on both sides and Paulownia strips, the weight came in at just a whisker over 8kg. As that is the minimum legal weight for a marathon K1, I don't feel any great need to try to reduce the weight further.
