I haven't completed the Nomad yet, so I actually don't know how its turning/tracking characteristics are. Björn mentions in his description of the Nomad http://www.thomassondesign.com/en/catalog/my-kayaks/nomad that it will benefit from a skeg. But I prefer a rudder rather than a skeg (I don't want this to become a rudder/skeg/nothing debate!).

I have often heard that the decision to put a rudder on a kayak should be made after the kayak is finished. But since it also has influence on what kind of foot support i need, I think it's best to decide now. (I have actually made that decision a long time ago)

I haven't decided which mounting method to use. When I have joined the deck and hull I will probably cut off a bit of the end and replace it with a solid wooden block.
