I am shocked to read this sentence. I often repeat this mantra that I have adapted from your notes on building a nicely faired wooden shell. "It is important to make sure all strips are against the form and the edges all are glued uniformly against the prior strips" I have made this one of the constant guiding forces during the stripping process to produce a fair hull with a minimum of sanding. The bows of your kayaks are beautifully conceived and executed so I have to take your advice very literally.

Obviously my intent was not clear in that statement.

I do plane all rough sawn boards I use.

I use strips with sawn edges which create tight joints. My strips have sawn surfaces since the interior and exterior of the boat will be sanded.

All the boats you see on my web pages are built this way.

On "museum" quality boats I will run both strip surfaces through a thickness planer.
