Announce: New World Record

Since 2010 the greatest distance paddled by a female on flat water in 24 hours has stood at 121.37 miles or 195.33 km.

On 6th and 7th December 2014, that mark was unofficially raised by a young Australian woman to 125.36 miles or 201.75 km.

For a couple of decades, paddlers have competed in a 24 hour challenge in Canberra, Australia. Paddlers can compete as teams, pairs or solo and part of the entry fee and donations support a selected local charity. The aim is to paddle as many laps of the course as possible in 24 hours.

This year Angie Lees competed solo in the event and set the new world record.

A preliminary announcement is here:

I expect more information to be available when the record is ratified.

As an aside, I competed this year as part of a team of three and while I was pleased with my performance, it pales into insignificance compared with Angie's effort. That brief report doesn't really convey just how awful the weather conditions were. It doesn't mention the hail that some of us endured during one of the downpours.
