Takes a design with a fairly sharp angle between the deck and the hull for a sheer clamp to work. I use them when I can at the ends where it's hard to reach, I transition to inside glass tape in the middle of the boat where the hatches are and it's easy to reach. Works well for me.
I also tape the exterior seam the whole way, adds much the strength, I use bias cut tape though, the pre-made tape to me is gross overkill.
